I've been reading this forum in detail an it looks like I'll find some good un-biased information.
My husband and I had a inhome presentation by a nice man who sold us on the rainsoft system and a bunch of free soap. It was a lot of money and my son tells me I should just get a softener from home depot or lowes instead and save the money.
So my question.....is this rainsoft system worth the extra money, or can we just use something from home depot ?
I want a good system and don't mind paying for quality, but I want to be sure that its worth the money.
thank you
Alice

Rainsoft is a reputable manufacturer, with outstanding products.
My experience with rainsoft dealers is that they provide very high levels of service.
Which model did you look at ?

Greg, you're a lot nicer than I am on this one. Here in SoCal, the Rainsoft salesmen are way too pushy and charge a lot more than I think the product is actually worth. georgiapeach, you need to make sure you get everything in writing.

This forum is meant to help people, not slander other companies. If you sell Northstar, more power to you. I personally am not a fan of the Northstar in my market because of documented product reliability and support issues (Our retail operation is a NorthStar service agent).
If you can't back-up your statement about Rainsoft, don't make it.
I don't sell Rainsoft products, but I've known enough Rainsoft dealers and corporate staff over the years to see that they run a straight operation, have good products and treat their customers fairly.

I stand firm by my opinion. NorthStar has worked fine for me over 10years of plumbing.

We're looking at the EC4 wholehouse system and the Ultrefiner drinking water purification system. The Rainsoft salesman was very nice and I dont think hes a crook at all. We were surprized at the cost of the system and want to make sure were not paying too much for it. What is a system like that worth ?

Those are great systems.
Sure, there are other people out there selling "generics", but with Rainsoft you're getting so much more than "just a softener", you're getting one of the best warranties in the business, you're getting a quality product made here in the USA, and you're getting the support of one of the largest water companies in the world. Those home depot systems are what we consider "disposable", unlike the Rainsoft and other quality systems that will give you many years of excellent service.
I always tell people - "If you don't have an Intermountain dealer in your area, Rainsoft is who I recommend !"

I love my system. Our water is clean & clear. We don't have the nasty hard water scale on everything anymore. Our soaps lather better and I just feel cleaner in general. The drinking osmosis system tastes great=I do wish we had more pressure at our faucet though. I am very satisfied with the system and the dealer.

Do you like the Rainsoft system you bought and how well has the dealer treated you?

I still like it but I'm feeling a bit of buyers remorse. We got our financing and see that once we pay the bill in full that we'll have spend SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS:eek::eek::eek: for our softener. If it works as well as they say it does and if it lasts as long as they say it does then I guess it still is a good deal.
I've been reading this site and doing some research, I want to add Pure-Gard to our softener. Does Pure-Gard only work on some softeners. will it work on my Rainsoft softener?

Pur-Gard is specially formulated to work with any water softener, conditioner or filter without causing any damage to the components or controls.
The only systems I wouldn't use Pur-Gard on are the Next ScaleStop and any pH neutralizing filter since both contain calcium-based components, which Pur-Gard will dissolve.

No dude, the salt doesn't soften the water it cleans the softening resin. If you don't have a softener, just keep using your Calgon.
