We are going to to go ahead and buy a new water softener this summer and we want to choose the best value for money. My wife and kids have dry itchy skin and we heard on the radio that a water softener will fix that.

We're looking at choosing between home depot, sears, cleenwater, kinetico, superior water and air, and intermountain. Please answer these questions..

Do your softeners cure dry itchy skin?
Do your softeners use salt?
Where can I see your warranty?
Do you give military discounts?

Do your softeners cure dry itchy skin?
Water softeners can "cure anything" :), but they will reduce the amount of soap curd/scum that is left on your skin by removing the calcium ahrdness from your water. If you use a system like the Smart bottle, or a ZeroClear filter, then you will remove another causal factor - Chlorine. Chlorine attacks the collagen in you skin and causes a reduction in elasticity and reduces the skin's ability hydrate properly.

Do your softeners use salt?
All water softeners use salt of some kind (potassium chloride or sodium chloride). The only softening technology that doesn't use salt is called nanofiltration which is a form of membrane separation. Salt-free water softener alternatives are available from Intermountain and other companies. The system we have chosen to represent is the Next ScaleStop system which is certified to DVGW standards to be 99.7% effective in controlling hardness scale. While this and other certified salt-free systems are effective against scale, they don't do much at all for soap, which is probably a large part of the problem that you'd like to address.

Where can I see your warranty?
Our warranty is located here (http://intermountainsoftwater.com/warranty.html)- You'll see that it is one of the very best in the industry.

Do you give military discounts?
Yes, we certainly do! Intermountain respects and appreciates those who currently serve and have served these great United States. Please check with your local dealer for the specific details, but you usually can expect a 10% discount and other benefits.

Please seriously consider an Intermountain system. Our systems are specifically designed to address the unique water conditions found in Utah. You'll also appreciate that our systems are manufactured here in the USA using all American content. We don't cut corners or compromise quality by using Indian, Mexican or Slovakian resins, and we refuse to use Chinese or Mexican tanks like so many other manufacturers and dealers do these days.

Something that is also good to know is that all Intermountain systems include an automatic electronically controlled cleaning and disinfection system to protect you from potentially harmful bacteria build-up.

Best regards,

Greg

Greg, we had one of your salespeople come to our house last night to talk about the systems you sell. We're most interested in the Mister Smart Bottle system but I need to be sure that it will be the right choice for us. Is there somewhere we can taste the water and do you have some existing customers that we can talk to about the water filtering system?

So whats the story with Rainsoft and Home Depot-does Home Depot sell there systems or not? When I was there today they had GE softeners on the shelf but the salesman was a Rainsoft salesman. Is this normal?

They're selling leads to the local Rainsoft dealers. I knew they do it in a few markets like Houston but I didn't know they were in the Salt Lake City Utah market also. I didn't think they even had a Rainsoft dealership anywhere in Utah due to the strong local OEM's. Greg's out of town but he might be able to shed light on this when he gets back.

I don't like this method because it is a bait-and-switch tactic. You're going to Home Depot expecting a good deal on a cheap disposable softener and then they unleash a retail salesman on you who charges you high retail prices. Too sneaky for my liking. Either Home Depot sells disposable ****ty softeners for cheap or the good stuff for a fair price. What they're doing here is luring you in with the cheap ones and then rolling you into a retail system when the salesman gets there.

I went to Home Depot's website and they say nothing about the customer being converted to Rainsoft, they give the impression that a Home Depot employee will be coming instead. - not cool. I guess when the going gets tough, the big box stores get sneaky!
