Hi we live in Saratoga Srings Utah. Our plumber installed a Holts water softner in our new house. The water is super soft but sometimes we get salty water in the morning which I can live with if thats the way it needs to be. My problem I need help with is that the softner cleans every couple of days in the middle of the night and it is LOUD. - So loud that it wakes our kids. What can we do to make it quieter?

That system uses the Clack WS1 control valve, it is notorious for being noisy.

Make sure you have the aspirated drain elbow which injects small amounts of air into the drain stream to reduce noise. I've also seen some people wrap the drain pie in closed cell insulation.

You should never have salty water from any softener, so you need to get that taken care of. Left unattended, you could have serious corrosion issues in the home, as well as the obvious health concern of drinking salty water. You should call the plumber for service to get that addressed.

Holts Water is owned by Ray Holt, a former employee of Intermountain. He's a really nice guy. Give him a call, I'm sure he'll be able to help you out.

I'm not sure which location he's operating out of these days.

If you don't get the help from them, feel free to call our Utah county service office.

We don't have an issue with that since softeners usually go in the garage around here. I did see a lady wrap one in a water heater insulation blanket to quiet it down.
