Hi,
I'm in Boerne, Tx, and had a Fleck 7000 installed about 6 weeks ago. My water hardness was rated at around 32.

After installation, the water became soft; then too soft. I do have to admit, I was regened once a week for about 3 cycles, well before the appropriate gallons said to. We were using like ~250 gals per week, and the regen flow amount said ~140+ remaining

I set the water hardness to like 10, and figured I'd saturate the brine. Now it shows about 200 gal's left..and thought I'd come here..

Anyway, the water is way tooo soft. Soap doesn't leave your skin..My wife is complaining. What should I do.:(

That "too soft" feeling is quite common with many water softeners, especially when the influent water is as hard as yours.

During the softening process, sodium ions are added to the water, which can make your sodium-based soaps feel "slicker".

Overall carbonate content of the water can also have an effect, as well as the type of soaps that you use and the pH of your water.

What size is your system ?

Do you have any recent water test data to post, especially pH, Total Alk., iron and TDS in addition to your hardness ?

If you have a listing of your 7000 programming, we can look at optimizing it for you as also.

Switching from sodium to potassium-based salt is also often helpful in reducing the "slimy" feeling

Thanks for the reply..It would be great if I could keep a little hardness in the water

The programing is default
DF
10-backwash
60-brine
5-2nd backwash
10-rapid rince
12-refil

There are also codes for dFFF and FLtr

Can I just swap out the salt with potasium? or do I need to do something?

Thanks again

Do a straight swap on the potassium for now. Potassium chloride is around 30% less effective than sodium chloride so we usually derate the system capacity to accomodate, but since we're playing with calibration, it's not an issue at this juncture.

Go into programming mode (12:01pm and hold UP & DOWN for 5 seconds) on your 7000 valve and write down each and every setting that is currently configured and post here when you get a chance.

Did you figure out what size your system was ?
