I was asked to give an objective review of my experience with Schoonover plumbing and the Intermountain water softener they installed in my home in Lehi.
We moved to Lehi about 3 years ago and thought our new house was great, but over time we saw that the house seemed like it was falling apart. Our water heater started dripping from the pressure relief, the dishwasher was giving us poor results and our beautiful shower started showing disgusting streaks and spots and our laundry was awfull.
We looked on the internet and from the advice we got out there we decided to go to Home Depot in Lindon to buy a GE water softener and a new water heater. My brother is real handy so he installed them both for us. The change was dramatic! Our dishes started cleaning up and we saw less streaks in the shower. About 2 years ago the water started getting worse again and we called Home Depot for service. They told us they don't service the systems, but gave us a 800 number to call. We called and I sat on hold for about 20 minutes. The Indian kid on the other end didn't know what he was talking about and I asked them to send a repair man.
The repair man called and couldn't come for a week. We waited a week for him while our water just got worse and worse. He took about 10 minutes poking at it and said he wasn't sure what was wrong - AND CHARGED ME $75!!!!! So, I called my mom&dad and they told me to call Dennis at Schoonover plumbing for advice. Dennis was very friendly and taught us about how softeners are built different for different areas and that the GE softeners are built for average water and the water in Utah is WAY above average. He told me about the Intermountain Soft Water systems.
He said they're built here in Utah specially for the hard water and other nasties we see here and they are supported by a local service team who can come to the home within 24 hours. So I bit the bullet........I bought a Patriot "Home defense system" installed with tax for $2495.00 - That was about $1800 more than the Home Depot model, but my parents said I could trust Dennis and I didn't want to deal with another "el cheapo" Home Depot or Sears system. They installed the system two days later and it sure is different to the GE...for one it is about 3times bigger and the electronics on it are SUPER COOL and fancy!
We did have a problem with the system after about 13 months (April 2009). The water tasted salty about once a week. I called Schoonover and Dennis was out of town but his man Dan helped me over the phone as best he could. He decided it was best if we got Intermountain's factory service rep out to check everything out.
I called the 800 number and it was answered by a very nice lady who got all my details and my serial number. She scheduled a appointment for THE NEXT DAY. The serviceman called me that morning to confirm our appointment and then arrived on right on time. He wiped his feet outside and inside and treated me & my wife very respectful. He tested the house pressure and saw that our pressure had dropped a lot lower than when we had our system installed and he said the low pressure was causing the system not to clean as good as it should. So he made some programming changes to the system put in a different injector, tested the water and presented me with a bill for.........NOTHING !
What a nice surprise. He called his manager an had gotten permission to wave the service fee since it was just barely a year old. You know service like that is rare these day and I just wanted to share that with all of you.
Schoonover and Intermountain both went above and beyond to take care of me and my water. A+ service
