We have a softener and a big blue sediment filter for our cabin. Our water is hard with a little iron. Our well is 500 feet deep so the water is pretty clean. Every few days we get cloudy water through the house. The water will vary from cloudy yellow to cloudy red. If we look closely there are little particles in the water that just sit there. Leaving a glass overnight doesnt help at all they just float around. My plumber says they are coilloids in the water and need a ceramic ultrafilter to take out. Is this a legit. way to do it? what are the pros&cons ?
-thanks a lot guys !

Colloids are a mother to take out. Ceramic UF is a poor choice-rather use a hollow fiber membrane element that has forward-flushing and back-flushing capabilities.

TEST, TEST, TEST your water. Bacteria can breed where there are colloids -even in your deep well. Don't drink that water. Test for conductivity, hardness, iron, turbidity, pH, and ORP then we can help you better.

Ditto on hollow fiber - I've had great success with the INGE bundled hollow fiber elements. I've started recommending them in general as a comprehensive protection system. In fact, anyone who is on a well or spring should put one in as a matter of course. They're cheap peace of mind.
