View Full Version : Equinox Puremaster V-750
I want a whole house filter
I don't care about water hardness, just chlorine, pesticides and herbicides
My neighbor bought a Equinox Puremaster V-750
I want the same thing but think it is overpriced
Are there cheaper alternatives out there that are almost as good?

According to their website it costs less than $700 - so not really expensive at all.
I don't like them at though, because they don't have any backwash mechanism to protect from bacteria & their "technology explanation" is the most non sensical claptrap that I've read in a long time. They show the KDF "floating" at the top of the tank. The pre-filter is retarded, it just hinders flow and drops pressure. The original Equinox was closed down because of theit Ponzi-style MLM and IIRC, the principals did jail-time.
You should rather get a system that has a backwashing head on it like the Fleck 7000, Clack WS1 or Erie 2400 to protect from bacteria, properly classify the bed and ensure that things work properly.
If you care about your water quality, call your local CWS and get a quote on a multimedia self-backwashing T&O filter with a high activity acid washed carbon like HAC or Chlorgon and KDF-55C.

Back when I was a lowly service-man, I met a number of victims er... customers of the old Equinox. I have no idea if these guys that are selling it now have any relationship to the original group.
I'm not a fan of that particular deisgn for whole-house use for the exact reasons listed in the previous post - no backwash !

Hello, I would like to know if somebody installed PureEarth Backwashing KDF/GAC Whole House Water Filter. Any input about this system greatly appreciated.

Those systems use a Can Pro KDF holder, which I've had some bad experiences with. Buy something that uses a 7000 valve, 1ft3 of carbon & at least 10lbs. of KDF-55C

Ion, Thank you for reply. I was looking at Fleck 7000. Their Eradicator system removes a lot of chemicals from the water but I did not find that this unit removes clorine.

Alfa56, where did you see the Eradicator ?
I've never heard of it & would like to learn more about it.
Many people use the 7000 valve in their assembled products, so you'll probably see it appear under a lot of brands. Pentair/Fleck doesn't manufacture completed systems in the USA (yet), but you'll see a lot of garage-built systems being touted as Fleck or Pentair systems which it just wishful thinking. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Even with a great valve like the 7000, if the system is poorly designed or badly assembled, it's just a recipe for disaster.

They using Fleck 5600se. This system is a whole house filter not just a softener. It takes out chlorine, heavy metal and other chemicals as they advertised. That is what I need in NY area.

That's a great idea !
The 56SEE is an excellent control valve. My experience with the CanPro media guard cartridge that they use has been less than spectacular though. I've seen too many in-field failures. Our company was one of the first to bring them into the US back in 1997, but we discontinued them by 2000 due to unsatisfactory performance.
I'd respectfully suggest that you consider a system with gravel and or quartz underbedding that supports the kdf, which will give you better long-term results. If you wanted to use the same vendor, I bet they'd build one to order for you (you'd save some money by eliminating the media guard cartridge).
Good Luck & Best regards
Greg

Greg, Thank you very much for your reply. I will call them tomorrow and ask about "system with gravel and or quartz underbedding that supports the kdf". Do you think this system will remove chlorine and metals from the water as kdf does? Thank you in advance.

Hi alfa
The way I'm describing will do everything the mediaguard configuration does, since it uses the same KDF-55 media. Your system will just last longer & work better while providing more flow.

The system greg recommended has kdf in it just like the mediaguard one, the media is just flat on a bed of gravel that supports it. That's how we build our systems too and we get great performance. I've always stayed away from the mediaguard, based on the frustrations I've seen other dealers have with them.
